Venezuelan Economic Collapse, Leading to Massive Migration

The economic situation in Venezuela has worsened in 2016. The nation no longer has enough food to support its population. As a result, desperate Venezuelans of all ages have migrated to Caribbean islands, the US, Brazil, Colombia, and other destinations. An article in Sunday’s New York Times reports on this: “Hungry Venezuelans Flee in Boats to Escape Economic Collapse.” A recent Pew Research study chronicles migration into the US: Venezuelan Asylum Applications to the US Soar in 2016.
