Economic Policy Institute: Unequal States of America

The Economic Policy Institute has created an interactive graphic to communicate the geography of economic inequality in the United States.

This graphic is based on an Economic Policy Institute report by Estelle Sommeiller, Mark Price, and Ellis Wazeter, Income inequality in the U.S. by state, metropolitan area, and county,  published in June 2016.

In a nutshell:

According to the report, the top 1% earns an average $1.2 million while the 99% earns an average $45,500. That means, the top 1% makes 25.3 times more than the 99%.
