Poverty and College Success

Poverty, forms of identity discrimination, and educational background create conditions that make it difficult for college students to best succeed.

To combat this difficulty, California State University at Long Beach and Long Beach City College have partnered with local K-12 schools to create pathways for students to attend and to graduate from college. Local business also participate in the collaboration.

David L. Kirp summarizes the Long Beach Promise in his article, “A New Way to Improve College Enrollment,” which appeared in The New York Times on November 14, 2015.
