Potential US Presidential Candidates Agree There’s a Problem, but Do Not Agree on the Solution

According to Noam Scheiber in his article for The New York Times, “2016 Hopefuls and Wealthy Are Aligned on Inequality,” potential Republican Presidential candidates agree that economic inequality is a problem in the US. Some think the solution is lower taxes; others, among them Rubio, believe the federal government has a role to play in narrowing the gap between rich and poor. Their perspectives differ markedly from those of the American public. As Scheiber explains:

According to a Pew Research Center poll from January 2014, which surveyed about 1,500 adults, Americans not only consider inequality a problem, but 69 percent of them, and almost half of Republicans, say the government should act “to reduce the gap between the rich and everyone else.”
